Alan Jackson and his Los Angeles-based criminal defense team at Werksman Jackson & Quinn LLP have entered the pretrial phase of proceedings in the trial of Fraser Bohm, the man charged in connection with a fatal car accident on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) in Malibu in October 2023. Along with Mr. Jackson, Bohm is also being represented by Jacqueline Sparagna.

Prosecutors have charged Bohm with four counts of murder, a filing decision that has drawn widespread attention and debate. Alan Jackson, who has successfully defended clients in some of the nation’s most closely watched trials, emphasized the unusual nature of the charges: “Our client is being charged with murder, which is a significant departure from the ordinary filing in cases of this nature. These types of incidents are routinely – nearly always – filed as vehicular manslaughter cases. The charging decision invites troubling questions about who truly drove it”

A Tragedy in Malibu

Bohm was traveling along a notoriously dangerous stretch of PCH which is known locally as Dead Man’s Curve when the accident occurred. Jackson explains: “Our client was clipped by another driver as he was fleeing from the aggressive man behind him. His car careened into parked cars, which then struck and killed the four pedestrians.”

Jackson goes on to note: “This case has garnered an enormous amount of attention due, in no small part, to the tragedy of the loss of life and the circumstances of the incident. Our client also lends to the interest in the case, as he is a Malibu resident from a well-established family. He was a college baseball prospect who has absolutely no criminal history or even any traffic infractions.”

What Comes Next

The case is currently in the pretrial hearing stage, with the next court date scheduled for October 8. During this phase, the court will hear arguments, review evidence, and determine how the case will move forward.

While the loss of four young lives has left a profound impact on the Malibu and Pepperdine communities, Werksman Jackson & Quinn LLP remains committed to ensuring that Fraser’s rights are protected and that the case is evaluated based on the facts and the law, not public opinion.
