Attorney Alan Jackson to Represent Nick Reiner in High-Profile Murder Case of Parents Rob and Michele Reiner

By Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney on December 17, 2025

Attorney Alan Jackson of Werksman Jackson & Quinn LLP speaking at a crowded press conference. He stands at a podium surrounded by numerous microphones from major news outlets like ABC7 and Extra, with members of the media and photographers in the background.

Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner and producer-photographer Michele Singer Reiner, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder following the tragic deaths of his parents. As this highly sensitive case unfolds, prominent Los Angeles criminal defense attorney Alan Jackson of Werksman, Jackson & Quinn LLP has stepped in to represent Nick Reiner.

Jackson, a former assistant head deputy for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office major crimes division and now a nationally recognized criminal defense attorney, confirmed on Dec. 16 that he would be representing Nick Reiner. Speaking to the media outside a Los Angeles courthouse, Jackson addressed the public in a somber tone:

“Most importantly, this is a devastating tragedy that has befallen the Reiner family, we all recognize that,” Jackson said. “Our hearts go out to the entire Reiner family.”

The Legal Process Should Move Forward With Dignity

Nick Reiner, who did not attend the initial arraignment due to medical clearance delays, faces  consequential charges including the use of a deadly weapon and a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. If convicted, he could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman.

Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney Alan Jackson is urging the public and media to allow the justice system to work as intended.

“There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case,” Jackson explained. “Those need to be thoroughly, but very carefully, dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed.”

As the criminal proceedings continue, Attorney Jackson has asked for the community and the media to allow the legal process to unfold with care.

“We ask that throughout the process, you allow the system to move forward in the way that it was designed to move forward,” Jackson requested. “Not with a rush to judgment, not with jumping to conclusions, but with restraint and with dignity and with the respect that this system and this process deserves and that the family deserves.”

A Shocking Loss for Friends and Fans

Rob Reiner, a renowned director known for films like When Harry Met Sally and A Few Good Men, and Michele Singer Reiner, also a talented industry professional, are highly recognized members of the Hollywood community.

The sudden loss of Rob and Michelle Reiner has shocked friends, fans, and family alike. At the same time, Nick Reiner’s legal rights and presumption of innocence remain at the center of the judicial process. This is a fine balance that Attorney Jackson is uniquely equipped to maintain, as he works to uphold the critical need for a fair, thorough, and impartial examination of the facts.

This unfortunate event has shattered a family and stunned a community. As the investigation continues and new facts come to light, Werksman, Jackson & Quinn LLP remains committed to ensuring the legal system functions the way it was meant to: without bias, without assumption, and with unwavering attention to justice.

Alan Jackson Is a Proven Force in the Courtroom

Alan Jackson is no stranger to high-profile and emotionally charged cases. As a prosecutor, Jackson secured a murder conviction for music producer Phil Spector, one of the most closely watched celebrity trials of the early 2000s. That courtroom experience has shaped his reputation as a tenacious, effective, and deeply strategic legal professional.

Since moving into private defense work at Werksman, Jackson & Quinn LLP, he has continued to represent individuals facing life-altering charges. In recent years, Jackson secured an acquittal for Karen Read, who faced second-degree murder and manslaughter charges during a heavily publicized trial.

Attorney Jackson’s ability to navigate emotionally charged and media-saturated cases has made him one of the most sought-after defense attorneys in California. He represented Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey in separate sexual assault cases, navigating the legal and public relations difficulties that accompany celebrity criminal defense.

The Legal Road Ahead for Nick Reiner

Nick Reiner did not enter a plea at his initial court appearance. He appeared briefly with his legal team and waived his right to a speedy arraignment. Proceedings will continued to January 7. At that time, his medical status will be reevaluated, and the court will determine how to proceed with the arraignment process.

According to law enforcement, Rob and Michele Reiner were found stabbed to death in the early morning hours of Sunday, December 14, inside their Brentwood home. Nick Reiner was arrested later that same day. Prosecutors have charged him with two counts of first-degree murder, and they are pursuing special allegations involving multiple murders and the use of a deadly weapon.

Nick Reiner is currently being held without bail. Alan Jackson has made it clear that his role is to defend his client, but he also intends to ensure that the judicial process is carried out with the gravity and respect it demands.
