Michael G. Freedman | Partner


Michael G. Freedman is an experienced trial attorney and former federal prosecutor who represents individuals and companies against all types of criminal charges and government investigations and in high-stakes civil litigation and appeals. His clients, who often include business executives, doctors, lawyers, musicians, entrepreneurs, and cannabis companies, benefit from his courtroom skills, strategic guidance, and ability to discreetly navigate and successfully resolve the most challenging matters. In addition to routinely preventing charges from being filed against his clients, he also has a lengthy track record of success defending his clients at trial and on appeal.

As a prosecutor and defense lawyer, Michael has handled virtually every type of criminal case at every stage of the process in state and federal courts around the country. He has particular expertise in white collar fraud, healthcare matters, the cannabis industry, money laundering, environmental regulation, and asset forfeiture proceedings. He also successfully defends clients in drug, homicide, assault, and firearm cases. In his civil practice he represents plaintiffs and defendants in contract and partnership disputes, employment matters, class actions, and defamation suits. Michael has successfully prevented numerous clients from being charged, won substantial settlements, protected his clients’ businesses and licenses, and defended victories on appeal.

As an Assistant United States Attorney in the Central District of California, he was lead or co-lead counsel in eight trials, nearly a dozen appeals, and countless investigations. Michael began his career as a law clerk on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and he currently serves as National Co-Chair of the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association Criminal Justice Section’s White Collar Crime Committee and is actively involved in a variety of legal and community organizations.
